What happened

National university network suffered a severe infrastructure encryption event orchestrated by the Fog ransomware syndicate. Threat actors exfiltrated 62.2GB of data, compromising student medical records, confidential non-disclosure agreements, and employee Tax File Numbers (TFNs). The breach caused widespread operational paralysis just weeks before the first semester, crippling enrollment portals, internal communications, and graduation tracking. The university subsequently obtained a Supreme Court injunction against "Persons Unknown" to legally prohibit the online dissemination of the stolen data and engaged the ATO to secure impacted TFNs.
