Port Melbourne-based diesel engine and machinery management firm Macquarrie Corporation confirmed a third-party cybersecurity incident after being listed on the dark web leak portal of the Storm ransomware group. Threat actors gained unauthorized access to internal business systems via a compromised external technology provider. Storm subsequently published exfiltrated proof files including employee passport scans, death certificates, company correspondence, customer data, and credit listings. Macquarrie Corporation secured affected systems, engaged external cyber security and legal advisors, transitioned to alternative operational arrangements, and initiated direct notifications to impacted individuals alongside reporting to the ACSC and OAIC.
